Big Weights for the Matchmen
Phil Allton won at Highfield last Sunday: fishing peg 37 on Oak lake on the method feeder, he had 111lb of mainly carp.
Not to be outdone, Graham Carter won his match on Beech lake at Highfield on Thursday. He had 94lb, again mainly carp, from peg 19.
We were having a bit of a tidy up and came across some old hooks that had been found in a long-forgotten drawer here at the shop some months ago, and we though readers of the blog might be interested.
As you can see in the picture, there were quite a few old boxes of hooks, from Edgar Sealey, Mustad and Ayrbro.

Chod Mania
Chod rigs have been one of the major developments in carp fishing over the last couple of years, and this week saw a couple of new products arrive.
First off we had Korda’s new Mouth Trap Chod Filament – developed by Korda to be easier to use when tying the rig, and work better when tied, keeping a nice curve and forming the perfect hooking angle.

Round two was again on the Shropshire Union Canal this time at Wardle near Nantwich. The weather for todays round was considerably different to the last match with strong winds blowing down the cut, making the fishing difficult in some sections.

After Lewis’s big barbel, reported in yesterday’s post, we got talking in the shop about our various personal bests. It seemed like a good idea to ask around everyone and compile a list of the best fish of each species that had been caught by current Carter’s staff. It turns out that Lewis had had a better barbel than the one referred to above, and the rest of the list is fairly impressive as well.

Carter’s Staff Make Good Use Of Day Off!
A couple of shop staff showed their angling prowess on their day off yesterday…
Big Barbel for Lewis
Lewis Kennedy fished the River Ribble with a view to snaring a barbel or two. Fishing a deep hole not far from the bank, he had a 5lb fish on pellet but then swapped to 4 grains of sweetcorn on the hook to nail an 11½lb barbel.
This is a very good fish for this time of year and will probably make 13lb during the Autumn. (Sorry about the lousy photo quality – it didn’t transfer from Lewis’s phone well.)
Another Hook in Finger Incident!
Dave Williams, Lewis Kennedy and former colleague Paul Dukes took a boat trip out of Cemaes Bay in North Wales. All was going well until, while catching some mackerel on feathers, Paul was heard to say “Oops, that’s not good!”.
