Just a quick note to say,

A superbly run match and one my dad described as "like old times" if you know my dad, you will know this is praise indeed. Though him catching 6lb and me DNW is pretty unbearable at the minute.

I just wish Fred had been behind me to tell me how to catch them Liverpool eels, which still seem to avoid me. (Get a proper worm on there la!!!)

In all seriousness it was a match Fred would have been proud of and very fitting for a bloke who has been a tremendous influence in mine and many others fishing career.........he was alwys there to help!

[..YouTube..] I had a Chow Mein Pot Noodle and didn't like it whilst fishing, I tried a few slivers on an 18 hook and had nothing but Rudd and Carp (Rudd to 2lb and Carp 2-5lb). When I got in, I tried it in the tank and saw similar results to the types of fish that went for it, the smaller ones left it and the larger ones took preference to it..
If you go fake, try not to get popup even for weed, neutrally buoyant works wonders and sits lightly on any weed. And you're bang on with the crushed corn idea ;-)

[..YouTube..] well that is interesting, I think it could be a bit challenging getting bits of pot noodle on the hook, maybe a fake bit would be the answer with a bag of free offerings. yes I did hear that carp like sweet meats but have not tried them my self. when it warms up a bit I shall try it. As for sweet corn I think it one of the all time great baits and don't think fish will ever get fed up of eating it, good idea to crush it if fishing on weed, could just be enough for it to sit on top an not sink in

[..YouTube..] As for bait choices we get them on the feed with a carpet of groundbait, usually Dynamite Swimstim (Betaine Green) and place 4 or 5 baits separate throughout each tank. Luncheon meat coated lightly with caster sugar works very well for the larger fish, and white baits seem to do the trick if no meat is available. The Sonubaits FinPerfect 4mm pellet range is a preference of all the fish for the feeder, they all seem to feed together rather than pushing other fish away but they stay competeitive.

[..YouTube..] The main tank I have is in my Dining room, it's 8x3x3 and right now has a few Frontosa, Caeruleus, Alhi, some Catfish and a few others. The surroundings in the tank are setup to mimick the real ones of their natural environment. My angling buddy has Carp and we both try similar methods to see what reactions we get from each fish and so far, single squashed corn pieces that flutter work best as single hookbait, with pellet and pot noodle (Yes, thats right!) close behind.

[..YouTube..] I would like to get a nice size tank to do bait tests in, do you keep the carp in it all the time or do you have a pond and just put them in the tank for tests? have you done tests that give the fish a choice in what bait they can have? by putting 2 or 3 different baits in at a time, if so what did they go for first?

[..YouTube..] That's a top method too, saves complicating things as well - I use 4mm pellets and/or groundbait in the feeder with either a 6mm pellet on the hook or a brightly coloured hookbait such as corn or a fake white bait as a visual attractor, the fish single out the bait and go straight for it - I test baits, etc.. out in my tank at home and the fish always go straight for the hookbait rather than snoop around for a while first. (Although they do have a nosey first off..)

[..YouTube..] I use to use just a open ended feeder, put a plug of ground bait in then pellet then another plug of ground bait but with this its very easy for the fish to get too. I bet its good then fished with pellet on the hook too.
